Football Manager 08:The 5-4

June 6, 2008 by avikal2004

Well despite this being a petty issue, I finally decided to blog it as it was a interesting match to tell nonetheless. Well, first of all, in FM you cant play so nothing is in your hands except tactics. So, I was managing Manchester United(despite I support Barcelona,it was a demo version so only english teams). So anyways it was a good start to the season 10 straight wins. Actually, I didnt have very big opponents to play with till then. So, finally I was facing Arsenal the best team in the league, they had 10-1-0 record and the one they had drawn was against Chelsea in Stamford Bridge. So, despite the match being in Old Trafford, they were big competition.

So, with a 4-4-2 attacking formation,my line up was van der Sar, Evra(LB), Vidic(LCB), Ferdinand(RCB), Nevile(RB), Giggs(LWM), Fletcher(LCM), Carrick(RCM), Ronaldo(RWM), Rooney(LF) and Nani(RF). Major tactics of mine were using the wings a lot and crossing, attacking approach. Arsenal had a normal 4-4-2 with their wingers not pushing up as much as mine. By the way, I was missing Tevez (top goal scorer of previous and current season) and Saha due to injuries. I had replaced Hargreaves by Ferdinand despite him doing quite well in the central defender position just out of instinct.

1ST HALF:

So, match started and  really  worst start possible Adebayor scored a quickfire double in 7th and 10th minute(both rebounds) and gave Arsenal a vital 2-0 lead. Well, so I made a few tactical changes reduced time wasting(yes thats there also) to a bare minimum, more attacking approach, direct passing. The result , in 12th minute Rooney headed gratefully from Ronaldo s cross making the scoreline 1-2. Well, so then the match intensified in the 13th minute van der Sar made a fine save and then 14th minute Lehmann had to make a brilliant save. Van der Sar was again tested in the 17th minute(really defenders where are you?). Rooney missed a chance in the 19th minute. Well so match progressed Vidic levelled the scored in the 26th minute with a header from a corner.2-2. Van der sar had to make another save in the 28th minute. But in the 29th minute Arsenal counter attacked and Belluschi scored from 25 yards out to give Arsenal the lead back. 2-3. After the 5th goal of the match defenders had finally started showing up that they were there. Then Van Persie got yellow carded in the 32nd minute for elbowing Vidic. Lehmann was tested in the 39th minute. Arsenal went a little defensive. And so we went into half time 2-3. Didnt feel the need of changing tactics and didnt make any substitutions either as I thought of waiting till the 60th minute. Just decided to show my disappointment to the team.

2ND HALF:

Eboue got a yellow card for bodychecking Giggs in the 47th minute. Lehmann again tested in 57th minute. As I was finally thinking of substitutes Ronaldo scored from a lovely pass from Rooney in the 59th minute. Then Adebayor and Rooney got a chance in 61st and 63rd minute respectively. Lehamann again made a good save in the 65th minute off Ferdinand. 67th minute Ferdinand got a yellow card for upending Adebayor. In the 69th minute Adebayor had a nice chance to complete his hat trick but wasnt able to take it. In the  71st minute, Arsenal made a double substitution replacing Belluschi with Hleb and van Persie with Eduardo. In the 73rd minute Rooney converted his self made chance from a rebound off Lehmann. ManU were finally leading 4-3. I then made a change with Neville cooming off for Wes Brown. Van der Sar made 2 fantastic saves in the 78th and 79th minute. 81st minute Arsenal bring on Vela for Toure. 86th minute I bring on Adrien(recruited from youth team) for Carrick. Arsenal change formation to 4-2-4. Arsenal did a typical Beckham-Scholes combination goal from the corner with Vela scoring from a corner from Rosicky. 4-4. I thought now its surely a draw. 90th minute Rooney took the ball from Eboue with an excellent slide tackle and kept the ball moving and finally played a lovely ball to Nani who just rocketed the ball into the goal from 25 yards out. This one has to be the decider. 5-4. 4 minutes of added time but really ManU defend well and stop Arsenal. Ref blows whistle. FINAL SCORE:5-4. Rooney is the man of the match. I rejoice my position now at the top of the table.

The Brawl

April 10, 2008 by avikal2004

The anger clicked and the fury foretold,

The madness within just let itself loose,

They didn’t care how much they hurt,

They just cared that it hurts enough.

A punch to the nose,

A kick to the backside,

There s no stopping,

Till the other gives up.

Punches and kicks keeps on flying,

They get immune to the pain,

Their mind’s purpose is only,

Revenge and hatred to flow through.

They get high on their spite,

Madness takes over,

Bones crunch and muscles swell,

Numbness ensnares their body.

When finally one can’t go on,

He stops to admit his defeat,

Gets beaten a little more,

Till the victor feels his triumph.

The victor glares at the vanquished,

With the anger within those mean eyes,

The defeated walks away,

But not a smaller man.

The battle might have ended,

But they have started a war,

More battles are to follow,

Till one of them breathes their last.

Sadness Takes Over

April 8, 2008 by avikal2004

From one problem to another,

Through the stress and tension,

The mind overworked,

The heart gloomy and in despair.

World seems a much smaller place,

You are trapped within your sorrow,

You let your feelings get buried,

The pain fades but just for a while.

The sorrow hits you back,

In your idleness and solitude,

Gets you engulfed in your sadness,

A tear finds place in the corner of your eye.

The truth is more sour,

The feelings buried come back,

And in a much uglier form,

Sorrow takes over.

Still you try to laugh,

To hide the pain beneath,

But the only thing in the end,

The silence shatters you deep inside.

Opposites

April 3, 2008 by avikal2004

Well I believe in the theory of opposites being present at any point of our life. Its just that one usually dominates us so we neglect the other. But I feel both of them are present just that the circumstances favor one so we tend to ignore the other. Happiness comes along with sadness, like and dislike, love and hate.

Even if we are neutral at some point of time that only can be due to equality of both the opposites. I even believe that we have both optimism and pessimism in us. We have confidence of success in some things(optimism) and fear of failure in some(pessimism). Its only which part which we show more which decides our image to the world. Sometimes the smallest of things make us think negative yet in the hardest of time we feel positive of success.

The power is obviously in our hands of which one of the oppositely paired feelings we allow to dominate and thats what decides our actions and future.

Football:Emotions

April 2, 2008 by avikal2004

Well, I am writing this at a personal level. Its about how this game can be a variety of emotions even though its totally a physical game. You need strength, stamina, SKILL and quick thinking. But it really also is a big play of emotions. The sweet sense of victory, the heartbreaking defeat, agony of missing a goal, the vindictiveness after getting tackled, the helplessness and frustration when nothing s going right for your team, the joy when your team is leading big time, the sneer when one pulls off a cool trick. Its got all.

We always have some emotion running through our mind even when we are playing the game casually. The smaller parts of the game are more intensified such as the swearing at the opposite team player, applauding your team mate for a brilliant through ball, trying to trip an opposing player to get the ball from him, diving(this is more professional), hand ball, etc. And the thing is more smaller the field of play more intense is gets as there is more a player can do as there are less number of players.

Its a game which a spectator wont understand the complexity as it looks very different from what the players on the field feel. Its very easy saying that “He should have done this or that” but when you are there with the ball and you come under pressure thats the time doing becomes so so much difficult than saying. Experience the game once and then you ll find what I was talking about. And ending this, its a big passion game. If you have got the passion for it you never be able to grow up enough for this game.(Unless, you aren’t able to run anymore)

Joga Bonito(Play Beautiful).

The Unknown

Dunno from where he came,

With or without him it was still the same,

Came with silence and was gone with the same,

Made no difference to the people’s game.

The Masks Of the World

March 28, 2008 by avikal2004

The expressive faces around us,

Seem to be the true reflection of their heart.

Is it really this way?

Or is there something dark beneath?

Have they just been fitted,

To match the occasion?

Going by their faces,

You ll be purely misled,

Everyone is a natural actor,

Fits oneself into the occasion,

Their are purely manipulated,

And their expressions controlled.

The outside speaks a different language,

Than the inside.

Even though the inside isnt projected,

It has the heavier hand.

It is the one which decides their future actions,

And their manipulations.
